The table orders 51 states by top-division college football sports teams. It describes one published measure, not an overall judgment about where to live.

Use the result as a starting point, then compare the underlying source, dates, and local county figures before making a decision. Football Bowl Subdivision programmes, the top tier of college football. Lower divisions are not counted, so a state can have plenty of college football and still read zero. Clubs are placed in the county their stadium is in, as every other league here is. A zero means no club in the leagues listed here, not no sport: minor league baseball, lower college divisions and other leagues are not counted.
