Public EV charging ports in service divided by the resident population, for comparing charging capacity across places of different sizes. It complements, rather than replaces, the raw port count: one truck-stop charger can produce a very high rate in a sparsely populated county, while a large metro can have many more chargers and a lower rate. It does not measure distance to a charger, connector compatibility, uptime, pricing, queues, private charging, or cross-county access. Ports are counted where the station sits; population is the current Census estimate used elsewhere on the site.
