Highest income inequality by state
Gini index of household income inequality.
This measure has no better end. The order describes the states, it does not rank them — see the other direction.
How unevenly household income is distributed, on a zero-to-one index: zero would mean every household had the same income, while one would mean all income went to one household. It measures the income spread, not whether incomes are high or low — read it beside median income and poverty. This is the Census ACS Gini estimate from table B19083, not the SAIPE program, which does not publish a county Gini series.
