This measure has no better end. The order describes the states, it does not rank them — see the other direction.

Households of a single person, as a share of all households. High in cities and in places with many older residents, for opposite reasons. It is a household measure, not a population one — a place where a third of households are one person is not a place where a third of people live alone.
